About Us - L2 Lion Dance (樂獅舞獅團)

We’re a Manchester-based cultural performance and education team that aims to encourage cross-cultural collaborations and promote meaningful community initiatives. Specialising in lion dance performances, kung fu demonstrations, and cultural workshops, we bring the energy and artistry of traditional Chinese performance to modern audiences across the UK.

Our Chinese name, 樂獅舞獅團 (Lok Si Lion Dance Troupe), embodies who we are.
“樂獅” (Lok Si) means joyful lion and sounds similar to “樂施” (Lok Si), which is rooted in 樂善好施 (lok sin hou si), a classical Chinese phrase meaning:

“to take joy in doing good and to love giving/helping others.” — a message that reflects our mission perfectly.

Together, 樂獅舞獅團 represents a team that spreads joy, generosity, and cultural connection through lion dance and traditional arts.
It reflects not just what we do — but why we do it: to give back, to uplift communities, and to share our heritage with openness, respect, and heart.

Our mission is simple: to honour tradition while breaking boundaries. We believe that culture thrives when it’s shared, and that performers are the heart of every performance, and they should be treated as such.

Who We Are

You might have seen our lion go viral on TikTok, but behind the mask is a close-knit team united by a love of martial arts, Chinese culture, and performance. We’re more than performers, we’re friends with diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique stories, skills, and energy, from lion and dragon dance to wushu, calligraphy, and music. Together, we blend tradition with creativity, honouring tradition while celebrating how the art evolves today. Above all, we are a team built on passion, respect, and joy.
